Well after you found out in our last blogs how hard our life here on the other side of the world is, you surely will understand that we were in big need to take another holiday very soon, which is why we decided to spend a week in the land of kangaroos.
Of course it wasnt only holiday, at least not for Alex who had to attend a three day IT convention in Sydney which is why we decided in the first place to spend a week in this wonderful city. Therefore we decided to fly there early on a Saturday and only come back late next Sunday. We arrived perfectly on Australia Day which meant we could watch an amazing firework in Darling Harbour and see more people than we have ever seen the last 6 months. Unfortunately we forgot our camera at home and had to use a disposable camera (pictures arent the quality we are used to, but well, still nice).
We definetly fell in love with Darling Harbour. There are a million restaurants and bars at this waterfront and the place is always buzzing. Best is to sit outside with your cocktail and just watch people stroll past (you can see some weird people there).
As Alex has never been to Sydney we of course also did all the tourist sightseeing like: Harbour Bridge, Opera House, Botanical Garden, The Rocks, Aquarium, all market we could find ( man markets in Sydney are superb!!), the Bavarian HofbrÀuhaus for real German food (yumm!!), Darling Harbour and Chinatown.
Well Laura must say not a lot has changed since she has been here a couple of years ago, except that everything is now even bigger. We also did a nice harbour cruise and enjoyed the lovely weather. Its interesting if you think about that the population of New Zealand is same with the population of Sydney (makes you think doesnt it?) Sydney is huge!!!
While Alex worked his way through the IT convention Laura enjoyed summer sale in the city and went to every shopping centre she could find within walking distance (and there are many). During our last two days we also enjoyed the Chinese New Year (year of the rat) and wanted to make a trip to the Blue Mountains to look at the rainforest and the famous stones called the three sisters. Of course it had to rain. Well we went anyway and had an awesome time looking at the different shades of grey (you really need to do it!!). We saw: light grey, wet grey, dark grey, grey in grey, grey in black, grey with mist, grey with rain.... absolutely amazing, something you HAVE to see :)
Then on our way back to New Zealand we almost missed the plane as our shuttle decided to take 45 minutes instead of 15 just because he wanted to pick up some more people. Well we made it and are now back in lovely New Zealand and back at work.
We hope you all are well!! By the way for those planning to visit... we finally have our guestbed :)
